Edison Drawn by “World” Artist

Edison Manufacturing Co., USA, 1896

Also known as Sketching Mr. Edison, this 150-foot short, in which J. Stuart Blackton did a quick sketch of the famous inventor, was the first of three that he was hired to do for Edison in the summer of 1896. Their success piqued the interest of Blackton and his partner, Albert E. Smith, in the entertainment prospects of motion pictures, and by 1897 they were engaged in both the exhibition and production ends of the business.
