The Great Train Robbery (IV)

Edwin S. Porter, Edison Co., 1903

  1. From Scene 13   The posse’s pursuit of the bandits climaxes with the final shootout. Oddly, although The Great Train Robbery certainly capitalized on the popularity of the chase film, its own chase is limited to one shot.
  2. From Scene 14   In playfully regarding the spectator as a victim, this famous shot would seem to work better at the beginning of the film, where it might be seen as an invitation to take part in the ensuing adventure.
